Obviously, keeping your firearms locked up inside your house isn't quite enough to keep your kids from using them to kill people.
It's hard to count the number of times crimes have been prevented because of a gun in the house. However, it's unfortunately all too easy to count the number of times a crime has been committed because a gun was readily available.
The whole thing is tragic, really.

How interesting that this once again occurs in a 'gun free school zone' just like columbine, etc. D.C. has the tightest gun laws and is a shooting gallery. Anyone see a pattern?
Right, anon, we'll just abandon all the laws that say you can't bring guns to school and they'll all of a sudden become the safest places in town.
As a teacher, I would rather not see that happen.
