Oh look, I'm right on! Again!

The Hill: Longtime Republican was source of e-mails

Just hours earlier, I said this:

"And finally, let us not forget that pissed off Republican staff are sometimes a bigger problem than Democratic staff. Republicans shouldn't be so quick to assume that it was the Democrats who leaked this to the press."

You know, now I really do hope the Republicans get their full investigation of how these IM's got leaked to the press. It'll probably end up at the feet of some twenty-something staffer who was friends with a few pages, worked 80 hours a week for $25K in DC and had to watch some worthless CoS in the office pull down six or seven times what he was making and get free tickets to Wizards games from convicted lobbyists.

Who ever could have imagined that Republican staffers would willingly cause so much trouble for their clueless leadership? You should now expect members of House leadership to call a special caucus in which at least one wacko in the group demands that the person who outed Foley be fired for not being a team player.

So the media knew about a potential sexual deviant in Congress as far back as last summer and sat on it until 4 weeks before an election. Can you say October Surprise? While it doesn't excuse the lack of action by the house leadership, it clearly shows their motivation in all this, although I'm sure you'll find a convenient excuse for them.

I think that's an interesting question and is worth considering. I'm sure the media also needed time to check stories and make sure everything was in order before moving ahead. I don't know how long that takes. I also don't know who decides what's newsworthy and what's not.

If Republicans think, however, that this argument will fly with the man on the street, they're making a terrible mistake.

If Democrats knew, Republicans probably knew even longer. I don't think excuse-making of any kind is going to turn this around for the GOP. Accept responsbility, sacrifice Hastert, and move on.

I see Hastert is now blaming staff. Apparently whomever covered up the Foley affair will be sent packing. Nice. Way to assert leadership.

Of course. Like I said, using staff as a cop-out for personal failures is almost a tradition among legislators. Once again, Fat Denny misses a chance to take responsbility. But he's getting his in a few weeks.
