Democrats united in their crappy taste in music

According to the AP, the Democratic candidates for president chose their theme songs on Friday. This allows them the chance to feel like professional wrestlers, with music blaring as they enter and depart campaign rallies, shopping malls, old folks' homes, and the bathroom.

And what we've learned is that we are virtually assured of having to listen to some crappy music next fall. If this is how they choose music, I see no reason to believe any of them should be trusted with keys to the White House.

John Edwards: "This Is Our Country" by John Mellencamp

Edwards is clearly playing the good old boy card here, and I appreciate the lyrics, though I think "Small Town" would've been a bit more upbeat and recognizable. Best effort in a weak field.

Sen. Barack Obama, according to AP, "decided against using any music in keeping with the somber tone he sought to convey."

BORING! Still, no music means he didn't pick something terrible, which is good enough for second place.

Rep. Dennis Kucinich: "America the Beautiful"

Wow. No comment.

Wesley Clark, who hasn't indicated whether he will run, entered to Johnny Cash's "I Won't Back Down."

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz... it's easy to tune out, just like Wesley Clark.

Sen. Chris Dodd: "Get Ready (Cause Here I Come)" by the Temptations and "Reach Out," also by the Temptations

Chris Dodd is stuck in the 1960's. Although on the plus side, The Temptations may be available to perform live at his events. It's gotta be a step up from doing the casino circuit.

And bringing up the rear...

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton: "Right Here, Right Now," by Jesus Jones and "Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" by Bachman-Turner Overdrive.

Proof that Hillary's stereo has been stuck on the adult contemporary station for the last two decades, her third choice was probably something by Bryan Adams or Celine Dion. Jesus Jones?!?! Anything by a British band frequently played in elevators, hospitals, and Piggly Wiggly is not going to get people's attention. And BTO isn't American either! They're from Canada!

When the standard is "Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow" what can you expect?

I would think that Linkin Park's "In The End" would be most appropriate...for them and us.

Hey, I thought Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers did "I Won't Back Down".

I think Johnny Cash covered it later on an album. I was cribbing from AP.
