I've never been happier to see someone's political career ruined. John Edwards was one of the smarmiest, most insincere candidates we've seen in modern history. His personal destruction is for the benefit of America.
He says he slept with Rielle Hunter, but says he never loved her. He also has not taken (or won't take) a paternity test, so he continues to stand behind the story that the kid's father was one of his campaign aides (wow, Team Edwards shares everything, apparently). But hey, apparently he thinks it's less bad because his wife's cancer was in remission at the time.
What a f@#$ing douchebag.
It's sad that once again, a tabloid has to break a story that liberal editors in America's newsrooms are terrified to go after. You think if this were Rudy Giuliani or Fred Thompson they would've ordered their reporters to ignore the story? Of course not. But they are madly in love with Barack Obama and don't want to see anything derail his candidacy.
To the anonymous reader who was giving me crap on this post, your crow is served. It's chow time. Eat up.

Thumbs up to the National Enquirer. Why was this story ignored again? I'm sure the reason will be because Edwards "isn't an elected official any more" Whatever, dude was the VP nominee 4 years ago, on the short list this year, and also just ran for freaking president. And newspapers wonder why people get their news from alternative sources.
1) How could Rudy! have any pecadilloes left unexamined? He used cops as chaffeurs to his trysts and lost the Mayor's manse in his divorce, for cryin' out loud.
2) This is bad for Edwards but how in the world does this reflect on Senator Obama? Even McCain isn't being held accountable for McCain's infidelities. If it comes down to possible Veeps, I'll trade you Edward's love-child for Jindal's exorcism and Huckabee's influence peddling with the State Patrol and we'll call it a wash.
3) Try not to look harshly on me when Jensen comes up for trial again. Schadenfreude is as schadenfreude does. Enjoy.
I never said it would reflect on Obama. I think it is worth asking why it is the MSM wouldn't go anywhere near this story when they were all to happy to go after Rudy once upon a time, or Larry Craig, or any one of a number of other politicians. The media loves speculating about the sex lives of politicians. Why did Edwards get special treatment?
Is it good editorial policy to tell your reporters to ignore actions by a candidate that create reasonable suspicion that said candidate lied openly to the American people about his marriage and personal relationships? It's like Bakersfield said - this is why people continue to turn to alternative media and blogs for news. Because the MSM waits for others to break stories now.
As far as Jensen goes, when's his trial scheduled for? Oh, it's not? Yeah. Maybe you should talk to Brian Blanchard about that before you talk to me. Nobody cares about Jensen and Chvala anymore unless your last name is Heck or McCabe - that ship sailed years ago.
Grumps, how do you turn this into a debate about McCain, Rudy, Obama, and of all people, SCOTT JENSEN?! Look, the "MSM", as RS likes to call them, were too scared to show this guy for what he really is and that is a fraud. You can't parade your cancer ridden wife around talking about your grand family values and expect your little affair to go uncovered. Give me a break. But hey, at least he didn't "love her". Classy.
Yeah, Edwards' apology was a real piece of work. He takes shots at the publication that blew the lid on his fling, then takes a steaming dump on his mistress by trivializing her - as though not loving her somehow makes his conduct more acceptable.
The whole thing reeks of "I'm only apologizing because I got caught." But that's fine. We'll whack at the pinata for a few more weeks until all the candy is out. Then, we'll leave his political corpse to rot.
When this story first bubbled up October and then again last month, and Edwards kept denying and denying, I thought:
The National Enquirer gets sued for libel all the time and loses. And if a renowned trial lawyer like Edwards hasn't sued already - he's hiding something...
I would say the same thing about the Enquirer's allegations that he's the father of the child in question, as well. Despite broad First Amendment protections, newspapers aren't allowed to lie (ergo, the libel cases won by even Brittany Spears against the NE)
There is still more to this story...
