Mulitply 9,000 by a couple thousand and it starts to add up

One wonders if the Obama campaign should really be calling into question the experience of a candidate who, last I checked, has spent more time in public office than their own guy, who has spent all of his time in public office running for another office.

"Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency. Governor Palin shares John McCain's commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade, the agenda of Big Oil and continuing George Bush's failed economic policies -- that's not the change we need, it's just more of the same," said Bill Burton, Obama Campaign Spokesman.

Apparently Team Obama thinks that people from towns of 9,000 aren't qualified to do much of anything but sit back and let the city slickers from Chicago run their country. Typical elitism - we want your votes, just not your input.

Last I checked, there are a lot of towns of 9,000 or so in places like Michigan, Ohio, and Virginia. Let's see how this attitude plays with the voters. My guess? Not well. Team Obama would be well-served to find Burton's muzzle and put it back on.

ANY small town in America is better run than any of the largest cities in America. Less crime. Better quality of life.

Of course, it's not all artsy-fartsy, government-run by over-paid public employees, and that's why Liberals HATE small towns... because the people who live there are self-reliant, and not always looking for a handout from some other unit of government.

Take a look at our big cities: LA, DC, Chicago, New York, Milwaukee. Show me one that actually WORKS.

That giant sucking sound you hear? It's money going down the drain...straight from the wallets of small-town dwellers in the heartland, and into the slums of the big cities.

Yep, nothing like the self-reliant farmers in the small rural towns of America. Giving so much, and taking nothing in return.

Let's talk about the pick- there wasn't a single more qualified woman than a Governor of a small population state with less than 2 years experience. I supported McCain for President in 2000, however it looks like Bush was the right pick in that race to govern the county after all based on this bonehead decision. I think that Bush's stock just went up... The big loser is Clinton since this will give Obama the White House.

To Anon 2, that's hilarious. Thank you for reminding me of how much I detest farmers sometimes.

To Anon 3, who would you have preferred to see McCain pick if he were going to pick a woman? Condi Rice comes with baggage from the Bush administration, KBH is kind of an airhead, Carly Fiorina and Meg Whitman have no public sector experience. Is there someone else you had your eyes on?

I have no problem with leaders from small towns, but I wouldn't confuse executive experience on the small municipal level with preparedness on the federal level.

Also, there about as many people in a Illinois State Senate District than in the entire state of Alaska.

Palin is under investigation for firing Alaska's Public Safety Commissioner because he refused to fire her sister's ex-husband. Why bring that sort of baggage on the ticket?

From what I've read, she's 100% okay with the investigation and may have even requested it.

Her husband has indicated that her sister's ex-husband had made threats against his wife’s safety and had threatened to harm/kill her father.

Clearly, Palin welcomes the sunshine, which is at least a welcome change of pace. A politician who says please investigate, I haven't done anything wrong.

While the connections may invite accusations of impropriety, I don't think there's anything wrong with asking a Cabinet secretary charged with public safety why he's allowing the employment in his department of an individual who may be placing threats of harm on private citizens and public officials.

So far, there doesn't seem to be much to see here. No worse than Obama/Rezko, McCain/Keating, Clinton/Whitewater, Reagan/Iran-Contra, or Bush/Fill in the Blank.

Yeah, I agree we're just a "heartbeat" away now. :)

God I love the Obama campaign, the experience of a VP candidate is much more important than the experience of the actual nominee.

Next up from the mouth of Barack Obama, its easier to sleep in the daylight because the light from the moon is too bright.

She's made a conscientious effort to separate herself from the corruption that's running rampant in the Alaska GOP. Ted "Bridge to Nowhere" Stevenhs, Don Young. Both ticketed to Club Fed, and deservedly so.

I bgelieve Palin resigned from somee ethics board because the Republicans on the board were involved in unethical behavior and had numerous conflicts of interest.

I think Linda Lingle would have been a better choice for McCain. She has more experience. But she probably doesn't belong to the National Rifle Association or Feminists for Life. The bursting of the Tom Ridge trial balloon showed how much McCain fears alienating the wingnuts in his party.

In my opinion, Mr. Obama does not have the experience to run a 9,000 person town in Alaska.

Just to clear up a couple of things. While she was Mayor of Wasilla the city was paying $36,000 a year to a lobbyist with connections to an uber-lobbyist whose name rhymes with Shmack Babramoff. It paid off big time for the self-reliant Wasillianonians. the managed to rake in upwards of $27 million in Federal earmarks including $15 milion for a self-reliant light rail line from Wasilla to Girdwood. You might remember Girdwood as the city where Ted Stevens' home renovation project capture the attention of the DoJ.

Just as another point, I think our small town has had a couple of really good mayors. They're caring and tight with a dollar. I wouldn't want either one as second in line for Pres.
