First amendment protects politicians? So says Sarah!

A fascinating read on the First Amendment by Miss Wasilla:
"If (the media) convince enough voters that (it) is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations, then I don't know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media."
Once again, Sarah Palin nearly leaves me speechless. In case you forgot what it looks like, here's the text of the First Amendment:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Because as we all know, the potential chilling effect that media criticism can have on the free speech rights of political candidates is huge.

Is it really that surprising that a woman who thinks the Vice President runs the Senate is also unclear on the content of the first amendment? I'll bet she can quote the second amendment verbatim, though.

I have to dispute your statement in your McCain endorsement that the Palin pick "looked good on paper." She's a Republican politician from Alaska. Right away, before I knew anything else about her, I assumed she would have ethical problems, because Alaska has the most corrupt political culture in the U.S. (with the possible exception of Louisisana). Yes, she challenged a sitting governor in the primary, but only because Murkowski was about to be indicted. The voters picked her to keep a Democrat from winning the general, not because she was a brilliant campaigner or terribly qualified.
