Best and Worst Legislators? Look no further.

Milwaukee Magazine dusts off its on again, off again Best and Worst Legislators feature this week, and more or less nails it on the head. It's always a much-anticipated read, largely because the anonymity the tabloid offers its sources allows people to say what they really think of people they otherwise have to pretend to like and respect.

It's no surprise that I'm in agreement with much of what the 21 Capitol observers who were surveyed had to say. Good legislators tend to be bright and pragmatic. Bad legislators tend to be lazy, clueless, or ideological hacks.

There is also a much-deserved tribute to Chuck Chvala at the end of the article, honoring a man who basically broke the law and ruined his own reputation in order to stop Tommy Thompson and Scott Jensen from co-governing the state without opposition. The article is very much right - while Democrats might want to sweep Chvala under the rug, they'd be better off erecting a statue in his honor.

Come on, RS. By "more or less" I hope you have a problem with Kitty making the Best list?

Mike Huebsch? I guess if you blame the fracturing of the caucus on the SE WI Belling clones and give him a pass.

I think Rep. Rhodes is generally deplorable but at least she'll cut a deal. Same goes for Huebsch. Anyone would've failed as Speaker with idiots like Nass and Vukmir and Kramer pouting and bitching and taking their ball home all the time.

Can't wait to file that open records request in month or two to see who Huebsch handed those discretionary raises to before he was deposed, and how many of them were conveniently running campaigns last fall. Should be fun!

Were you among the 21?

Well, talking about that makes the whole anonymity thing decidedly less anonymous, doesn't it?

Excellent article in Milwaukee Magazine. I know that insiders are much more familiar with what these people are like than I am, but I'd move Glenn Grothman from "almost worst" to "worst" even if it meant listing the eleven worst instead of ten. The guy is the poster boy for ideological hacks everywhere.
