He always loved an adoring crowd

But the only way this crowd is going to adore him is if he announces he's *not* running for something.

Madison - Several hundred people already have gathered on the steps of the state Capitol in anticipation of a tea party rally.

Though the rally is intended to be a gathering of citizens unhappy about the federal government's role, the big newsmaker is former Gov. Tommy Thompson.

Thompson, the featured speaker at the rally, is expected to announce whether he will take on U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) this fall.

Top advisers have signaled that Thompson is unlikely to run. But in the same breath, those same advisers say Thompson could change his mind.

Soon, Tommy will be back at the daily grind, making millions to do nothing on corporate boards and providing lukewarm, half-assed, too late help for statewide GOP candidates because secretly he knows that every time the GOP loses a statewide race, his myth grows larger.

"Where Tommy scores and harlots roar." Or something like that.
